SC State Class of 1969
Our goal for our next reunion, our 55th, is to grow our class endowment. We are starting now. For those classmates who have been reluctant to contribute, the endowment should remove many of your concerns about how your money will be spent. This is an investment, and the University can only spend a portion of the earnings on scholarship as we have directed. The endowment will be a permanent financial legacy for our class. A portion of the earning each year must be retained to grow the endowment. Please help if you can. No amount too small.

Family has military in their “DNA” (wbrc.com)
"The legacy of H.B.C.U.s is in every thread of American life. The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the author Alice Walker and the “Black Panther” star Chadwick Boseman are just a few of their culturally impactful graduates. Although H.B.C.U.s make up only 3 percent of four-year colleges in the country, they have produced 80 percent of the nation’s black judges and 50 percent of its black doctors. Among black college graduates with a degree in STEM, 27 percent are from historically black colleges. And remarkably, H.B.C.U.s have trained roughly 50 percent of black teachers."

We accomplished a lot as a class in 2019. Thanks to your generosity and loyalty to SC State, we funded $120,000 in scholarships to be provided over the next 5 years. Secondly, we established an endowment with an initial funding of $60,000 which will be a legacy for our class.
Our class is providing scholarships to needy students in the amount of $12,000 for each of 10 consecutive semesters (5 years), starting with the first academic semester, which began in August 2019. The selection and award process will be administered by the university through its applications and awards procedures.
The endowment we established had an initial funding of $60,000 and has grown to approximately $409.500 as of 7/31/2024 thanks to additional contributions from you and earnings.
Please help us grow it through periodic contributions. No amount is too small. Endowments enrich universities. They are permanent and aren't tied to or controlled by the State. You can make small recurring contributions if that fits your budget. You can set that up at the University's Foundation website (button above). When you enter the University's Foundation Site, designate "Other" from the dropdown choices and specify Class of 1969 Endowed Scholarship Fund. Let's aim big. Maybe the class of 1969 can leave a million dollar endowment over our remaining lives. I think we can! I know we can!
This puts in column 5 of our funding projections. Your generosity is paying off. Keep checking back. Maybe we can reach column 6 by yearend 2024. Let's see how much we can grow our endowment by our next reunion in May of 2024.
After entering the University's Foundation site, select other from the dialogue box and designate Class of 1969 Endowed Scholarship.

Our Class was honored at Homecoming halftime on 10/26/2024 for being the highest class donor for the May 2024 Reunion Cycle. We donated $361,000 at our 55th Class Reunion
S.C. State University, Office of Alumni Relations, P.O. Box 7056, Orangeburg, SC 29117. Attention: Iva Gardner.
Designate your donation as: Class of 1969 Reunion Account
Going forward we will emphasize annual appeals instead of a big push every 5 years. We have established an endowed scholarship in the name of the Class of 1969. Everything you donate between now and our next 5 year reunion will be tracked as reunion related if you select the class endowment fund when donating. Let's leave a lasting legacy for our class and support our beloved SC State University. Please visit the Class Legacy page above for more details. It is important that we support our community. The class legacy page shows some projections of what is possible if we devote ourselves to leaving a class legacy of support for SC State University.
